Private practice · 1010 Vienna

First understand.
Then treat.

Internal medicine, gastroenterology and hepatology. I will accompany you personally from the first consultation to the final result.

Your results are “unremarkable”, and yet you do not feel well? Or you would like to know how to stay healthy for as long as possible? Then we will look into it carefully together: through consultation, ultrasound, laboratory tests and, where necessary, endoscopy. I will accompany you personally from the first consultation to the final result.

Service

Well looked after, all in one place

It matters to me that you feel well looked after. That is why as much as possible takes place in one location, sparing you additional journeys.

All in one place

Consultation, ultrasound and endoscopy with me; as an attending physician at Goldenes Kreuz, hospital admission if required.

Same-day appointments

Every practice day, for patients already under my care.

Endoscopy without a long wait

Appointments for gastroscopy and colonoscopy are usually available within about three weeks.

Ultrasound and ECG included

If an ultrasound or an ECG is needed, I perform it during the same appointment, at no extra charge.

Blood tests during your visit

I take the blood sample myself during the appointment. A separate visit to the laboratory is only needed if samples must be processed immediately or taken while fasting.

Grip strength testing in ME/CFS

Measured with a hand dynamometer following the Charité Berlin protocol, with a second round after one hour, it makes fatigability and recovery measurable. Included in the appointment.

Reachable in writing

Via Mein Arzt Online. Urgent medical queries are usually answered within two working days.

Areas of focus

Why I always look at the whole picture

For me, nothing is more fascinating than pathophysiology: understanding why the body does what it does. I hold a doctorate in physiology, and internal medicine interests me in its full breadth. My patients benefit from this, because the body does not respect the boundaries between specialties. Looking only at the bowel, one may overlook the thyroid, the hormones or the mast cells.

Gastroscopy and colonoscopy

Endoscopy · Bowel cancer screening

Colonoscopy is one of the few screening examinations that not only detect cancer early but can actually prevent it. I perform it myself, at the Goldenes Kreuz and under deep sedation, so you will be aware of nothing. Appointments are usually available within about three weeks.

Procedure and costs

Stomach, bowel and motility

Gastroenterology

Heartburn, bloating, constipation, nausea, a feeling of pressure or abdominal pain? These can have very different causes, and I search for them thoroughly before irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a diagnosis of exclusion, is made too hastily. One particular focus is motility disorders of the oesophagus, stomach and bowel. And of course I also look at the liver and gallbladder, for instance in the case of raised liver values or a fatty liver.

Make an appointment

Prevention and healthy ageing

For women and men

Most screening examinations detect diseases early. I would rather they did not develop at all. That is why we take a close look with laboratory tests, ultrasound and an ECG, and discuss what you should work on and what you can safely do without.

More on prevention

Perimenopause

From an internist’s perspective, not just hormonal

Suddenly you sleep less well, your cholesterol rises, and red wine no longer agrees with you? All of this is connected. That is why I look at more than the hormones alone.

More on the consultation

When many organs are involved

Complex conditions

Mast cells, nervous system, connective tissue, blood vessels: in these conditions several systems often interact. It is precisely these connections that I find compelling, and I treat the gastrointestinal aspects myself. For Long Covid, ME/CFS and related conditions, there is also the Long Covid Online-Klinik, which I founded.

Infusion therapy

Targeted or restorative

From a targeted iron infusion to a restorative vitamin infusion: we will discuss in person what makes sense for you. And so that the time passes pleasantly, the infusion room is furnished with four massage chairs.

How decisions are made

“Humanity works – no prescription required.”

Kurt Haberstich

I show you the options. The decision is yours.

My role is to explain to you what is happening in your body and which options are available: what speaks in favour, what speaks against, and also what we do not (yet) know for certain. After all, you are the one who lives with the treatment, not I.

Only those who are well informed can make sound decisions. That is why I take time for your questions. And sometimes the best decision is to address sleep first and only then the cholesterol.

Medical knowledge is evolving rapidly, and what holds true today may be outdated in a few years. That is why I continually pursue further training and teach as well. What I recommend to you should reflect the current state of science, not that of ten years ago.

How I work

Three principles by which you may measure me

One doctor, from beginning to end

The consultation, ultrasound, report and, where necessary, the endoscopy: I carry them out myself. So you will not need to tell your story more than once.

A finding has a follow-up

If we find something, we take care of it here. You will not need to look for a new point of contact or wait months for an appointment.

Time is part of the service

A substantial part of every appointment is conversation. And I do not offer examinations whose benefit has not been demonstrated, even if they would sell well.

Services

Fees

An appointment with me is deliberately not a modular system: if an ultrasound or an ECG is needed, I perform it during the same appointment, and it is included in the price. You therefore do not pay separately for each examination. As a private physician (Wahlärztin), I bill privately. You can submit the invoice to your statutory health insurer, which will reimburse part of it.

First consultation€450

Detailed initial consultation with physical examination, 50 minutes. Ultrasound or ECG included where needed.

Basic check-up€490from 1 Jan 2027: €590

Including blood sampling, ECG, ultrasound of the abdomen, thyroid and carotid arteries, approximately 60 minutes. Laboratory costs are usually covered by your insurer.

Follow-up appointment 20 / 30 / 40 minutes€190 / €230 / €280from 1 Jan 2027: €200 / €260 / €320

Discussion of results, monitoring of progress, adjustment of treatment. Ultrasound or ECG included where needed.

Gastroscopy and colonoscopyWritten cost estimate

At the Goldenes Kreuz private hospital. With supplementary private hospital insurance, usually by direct billing; self-paying patients receive a written cost estimate in advance.

New fees

For first consultations, the fee of €450 applies to all newly booked appointments. First consultations that have already been booked will be charged at the price valid at the time of booking. All other new fees apply from 1 January 2027. If you have already booked a follow-up appointment for 2027, you may reschedule or cancel it free of charge until 31 December 2026.

Cover and collaboration

Well looked after, even in my absence

I have worked closely with Dr. Abdelrahman Aburaia for many years. We run separate practices in the same building and cover for each other when one of us is on holiday or unwell. You will therefore never be left without a point of contact. And where it is helpful, we also discuss findings together, naturally only with your consent.

Internal medicine, gastroenterology and hepatology

Senior Consultant at Klinik Floridsdorf, head of the outpatient clinic for inflammatory bowel disease. Private practice in the Wiesinger 3 building.

Frequently asked questions

Before your first appointment

Do I need to come fasting?

Not for an initial consultation. For a check-up with blood sampling and abdominal ultrasound, please do not eat anything after midnight; water and unsweetened tea are permitted. Before a gastroscopy or colonoscopy, you will receive separate instructions.

Will my health insurer reimburse the costs?

I am a private physician. You pay the invoice and submit it to your insurer, which reimburses part of it. How much depends on the insurer and the service. With supplementary insurance, the proportion is often higher; where clinically indicated, laboratory costs are usually covered by your insurer.

Can you also admit me as an inpatient?

If a same-day appointment shows that inpatient investigation is required, I can arrange admission to the Goldenes Kreuz private hospital, where I am an attending physician with admitting rights. I make this decision after the examination; whether a bed is available depends on the day. If admission is not possible, I will advise you where best to turn.

Is the practice accessible?

Not entirely step-free: there is one step from the street and seven more in the entrance area, after which a lift goes to the 2nd floor. A mobile ramp can be provided on request. Please let us know when booking your appointment.
